Mermaid Street, Rye

A leisurely morning after my run. Breakfast outside for the first time this summer. We left for Rye about noon, calling in at Cranbrook on the way.

Lunch at Fletcher's near the Church in Rye. Very nice too. Lots of BBC staff around the Church. It turns out that a new series of Mapp and Lucia by E F Benson was being filmed in Rye. Three episodes being made, broadcast Christmas 2014. Something to look forward to. For some odd reason I liked the Channel 4 series made in 1984. Prunella Scales was Mapp, Geraldine McEwan was Lucia and Nigel Hawthorne was Georgie. I've even read the books. I liked also the artwork of the title sequence. Susan is a great fan of the Mapp and Lucia.

Many buildings in Rye had been dressed to play their part in the production, including house names. Lots of food being eaten by the production staff. I bet they cursed the noise of a moped whining past and also yapping dogs that came nearby as they were shooting.

A good lunch and an interesting stroll around the town ended up with us going down Mermaid Street, site of the well known, very old Mermaid Inn.

Back home for broad bean and Lancashire cheese flan and salad, followed by more strawberries and ice cream.
