A Chinese tea chest

I bought this tea chest some years ago with the proceeds of my first piece of paid writing. I don't know too much about its provenance but I think it was originally used to transport tea from China (although the carving is very elaborate for a packing crate!). Inside is a card from the Shanghai Arts Furniture Co with a note "purchased 1963" scribbled on it.
