Day trip to Akyaka

Temple rock tombs are one of the main grave types in Lycia. One of the columns was probably broken during carving. The doors of the rock tombs were closed firmly with a specially formed stone. This type of tomb were generally decorated and traces of paint can still be seen. This type of burial custom was a symbol of prestige and wealth and begun in the 4th century BC and continued through the Hellenistic Period.
