Where it all happens...

Today I mustered as a beginning voluntairy chief- engineer at the famous sea-going tug "Holland". She was built in 1951 and still going strong, run by volunteers.

Todays trip was to the "oerol" festival at Terschelling.

The picture is from the manoeuvring stand where the commands from the wheelhouse are transferred to the main engine.
There is a remote control on it, since 1995 and it happened twice this week: the engine refused to start. It's a direct reverisible engine and refusing to start can result in damage... to the ship itself or other objects. The troublemaker might be the position of a micro-switch, and we made some changes to it after mooring. The next starts went well, so maybe this was the solution.

On sunday I sail withe her again....

Picture better in LARGE....
The engine telegraph shows "stop" but that's because it's on remote control.
