The vet

We spent a few days in Ethiopia visiting projects. The vet, Zerihun, has been working with pastoralists in this area for years and was a very good person to show us around.

But there is an aggressive tree called prosopis taking over the region. Originally viewed as a saviour as it introduces nitrogen into the soul and grows in harsh conditions, it now has the potential to choke or grazinglands and prevent any cultivation. The seed pods are eaten by goats and when they come out the other end they germinate in hours.

The weed was called a dictator, ruling everything!
