Goodbye Lazzarona

Last day at our Tuscan villa and the haven it has been. Pool, views of San Gimignano, the vineyards the olives and more. Fantastic!

So, Tuscany? Different to what I expected in some ways. But very beautiful, especially Chianti where we went yesterday, truly loved that region. The weather was spring like, but was perfect in many respects, warm, but not too hot, and the occasional rain/thunder shower – well, no problem. And the wine, just fantastic, loved it, a lot. The food, well, I think honestly I like the food in France more, especially the markets. But seriously, you can’t complain at the fantastic pasta, pizza, gelato, and salamis. Just divine! I’m being picky you know … ;-)

Off to Tivoli, on the outskirts of Rome. Have to admit, we’re being very flexible at this point, so only last night we decided to skip Pompeii (just too far) and only go as far as Rome. And then only this morning did we decide where to stay …

Spent some time googling camp sites in Tivoli, but nothing too much came up. Then I came across this, Nuovissimo appartamento Tivoli, on Airbnb. First time using the site, which was a bit of a hassle, had to upload a photo of passport etc, but once done then we were away.

An hour or so later the booking was confirmed by Greta and we were away. Left San Gimignano around 1, arrived at Tivoli at 4, and with just several wrongs turns, we found Greta and the apartment. So we were thinking, we won’t expect much for 60 euros, just 20 or less than a campsite, but wow! Fully modern apartment, wifi, short walk to town. Just fantastic.

Then we did just that, walked into town, checked out the train timetable for Rome tomorrow, had a quick nosy at Villa Deste and the gardens which we’ll look at on Tuesday probably, then home via a bar overlooking Rome. Such a beautiful vista.

And back to the apartment for dinner and an early night. Wow, just loving our camping trip in Europe ;-)
