Fluvial wanderings

Secesch River

People sometime ask me if wood has an influence in steep mountain streams. The answer is most definitely, yes. Here is a picture of a big debris jam on the Sesesch river in Idaho. The wood was input or recruited from an adjacent landslide and has created a multiple channel network where most of the river is a single thread cascade. While the hike around is a little arduous it's is much preferred and safer than trying to navigate through this.
