March of the Gillies 2014

The event is more important than the picture today. Here are some of the marchers on the Gillies' walk from Cambusbarron to the Borestone at Bannockburn. 700 years ago Bruce defeated the English at the Battle of Bannockburn and this march celebrates this victory. It is also central to the campaign to "Save Gillies Hill" from destruction by resumption of quarrying , which would result in hundreds of lorries passing daily through Stirling, 300,000 tons of stone per annum being removed over the next 25 years andthe end of a natural resource for flora and fauna.
The fight goes on and the turnout today show the strength of feeling in the community
