A Grave Sin

We are on the way to join our narrowboat at Sowerby Bridge.

On the way however I could not resist the temptation to take this photograph at Birchcliffe cemetery at Hebden Bridge.

You may wonder why. I am a family historian and one strand of my family with the surname SPEAK is concentrated along Calderdale in places like Elland, Stansfield, Charlestown and Hebden Bridge.

I know from the Chapel registers of Birchcliffe that I have relatives buried here.

However I do not rate my chances of ever being able to examine the gravestones in the Birchcliffe burial ground seen here.

Everything is terrible overgrown and the stones seem to have been used for all sorts of purposes.
