Botijo

The botijo is the best way to get cool water in the hot Andalusian summers.
See how it works here: How to Keep Beverages Cool Outside the Refrigerator
Before fridges existed, all houses used to have one botijo in the patio to get some cool water during the summer. I like to keep this tradition. That is why I got one yesterday at the Feria de Alfareria. The problem now is that very few people know how to drink water out of a botijo without getting soaked to the skin. It is difficult at first and children always used to suck the spout, but this is not correct. Your lips can not touch the botijo, as it is used by all the people in the family.
The tradition also dictates that a piñata is made with the deteriorated botijo at the end of the summer.
