fledgling

During an excellent and cool walk along the river path I heard a plaintive and insistent cry. Eventually I noticed the jerky movements of this wee bird and once I managed to get it into focus I realised it was a fledgling dipper calling for its mum. It had probably spied us on the path and was anxious for its mum and any food she might be bringing. Cara and Bruce were oblivious and continued to swim and guddle for stones, relishing the coolness on what was a very hot day.
