Tom Tower from Peckwater Quad

We collected our youngest son from his Oxford College today - we can't quite believe that he has now been studying there for 3 years so his time there is now over already!

He's been very lucky being at Christchurch, which is possibly the most magnificent college in Oxford. For the last year he has been living in Peckwater Quad, built in Classical Style in the 18th Century. This is the view from near the entrance to his staircase, looking through to Tom Tower. This Tower sits above the main entrance to the College and houses Great Tom, the loudest bell in Oxford; it weighs six and a quarter tons and originated in the 12th Century in Osney Abbey. Seemingly it has sounded every night since World War II, except for one night in 2002 when, for a prank, students apparently lagged the clapper!!
