Birds - of good health and good fortune, given to my parents when they visited the cemetery that the Ono family is buried in in Japan. The Onos are our direct ancestors, my great-grandmother on my mother's side was Japanese. The priest who looked after the cemetery gave my parents these birds - he spoke no English, but after taking them up to the top of the cemetery to see where the ancestors were buried and back down again he offered them tea and biscuits as well :)
