Sgwarnog: In the Field

Marbled

Arriving home without a blip, there was nothing for it but to go rummaging at the edge of the moor to see what was about.

There's always a temptation, when photographing mini beasts, to get in as close as you can, but sometimes that strips out the context and removes the sense of scale. Particularly so when size can vary from a few millimetres to a few centimetres.

So here is a micro-moth in its context, just to show how micro it is.

The Common Marble is indeed pretty common, but due to its size can easily go unnoticed. And they require patience, as they're usually flitting about, and when they do come to rest don't stay still for long. Which may be a more pragmatic reason why this particular blip isn't a dramatic macro.
