Who Throws the First Ball?

This afternoon I took my bike up into the dunes and saw that High Tide had immersed the Northern part of the Zandmotor peninsula and all the sandbars. As clouds were moving on I opted for a quick swim nearby. No playtime today. Besides, there were only a few visitors and the birds happened to be out of sight. Again, no idea how to make a photo on this windy beach. So, I had my salty dip in the restless green but undeep waters of the laguna.

Of course the wave tops try to bump your head off, but that is just the fun of it. If you are not quick enough or clumsy in your reaction - diving through the wave - you will get the full blow. Sometimes you swallow a mouth full of Alka-Selzer. Very healthy indeed, as is this daily Balneo-therapy working for me. No need to spend your scarce savings on troublesome Doctors, Therapies, Exotic Spas or Wellness Extortionism. Here is your elementary source of revitalizing, re-energizing, healing powers: plain North Sea Waters, just at your disposal, simply around the Dune Corner. Always Refreshing, Strengthening and Awakening!

Drying up on a windy beach, warmed by the sun...how can I describe this bodily, more than bodily feeling. The salt, the wind, the sunbeams, they all touch deep into your flesh. Make you feel the Cormorant drying its wings. This touch gives wings to your soul, elevates your whole being. So even if sometimes the water or the wind or both are a bit cold, you really feel ardent after swimming or bathing. And in case you would think, that I’m talking about the evident here, let me tell you, that most people at the seaside today were completely dressed up to their rain jackets and coats. Only a few children were playing at the flood line.

Walking back to the dunes I saw a group of children, the girls dancing around in their festive dresses. One in red. There was a lightness whirling over the rather empty sandplain. I could’t discern what they were up to do. Having a birthday party? Or a wednesday afternoon out for the nursery school? I don’t know and that does not matter. Because they were going to do some beach play. What are we going to play here? Ah, this exciting question is visible here.
The preluding curiosity shows itself, while the deeper meaning of that encompassing elementary play of earth, waves, wind and sun remains largely invisible. Except for the playing of the winds through the hollow vanes, so gaily fluttering over sunlit sands. What a perfect pre-scenery for a joyful thrilling festive play. Who throws the first ball? Lets do it all!
