Green Heron

My good luck was in evidence today when I noticed this green heron on Amazon Creek.

Looking down from a bridge over the creek as I rode along on my bike I had to do a double take to be certain I’d seen him.

I've not seen more than two or three of these birds in Eugene.

I mitigated my usual stealth mode inadequacy with a shot through the tall grass on the bank.

Good thing because my low crawl to a clear vantage point provided an excellent view of where he had been and nothing more.

Sheesh, I was so focused on being stealthy that I didn’t even see him fly away!
