Neva

The Golden Dome of St Isaac's Cathedral, the gilded spire of the admiralty and the blue facade of The Winter Palace, home of The Hermitage museum, provided an impressive backdrop to the Extreme 40 catamaran racing in St Petersburg today. Light winds and the 4-knot current of the River Neva made the racing more tactical than extreme. A lot of America's Cup sailors, including Britain's Ben Ainslie, are here honing their skills.

It's blooming cold for mid-summer!
