Dazed

Today was dental appointment number two. It shouldn't have been as traumatic as last time since it was only half an hour and he was just doing the moulds for the crown. But I hate that clammy plasticiney stuff they use ... I always feel as if I'm going to choke on it. And then he sprang the nasty surprise of doing some tinkering with my broken front tooth too. So it wasn't pleasant. I tottered outside feeling dazed enough to warrant a wander around Fabrezan in the sunshine before driving home.

Surprisingly I've never blipped this view before. These houses are in a lovely situation overlooking the river, although it's not so lovely when the river floods, as it does every twenty years or so. I was glad the washing was there to make the view more interesting.

In other news, S's adventure was cut prematurely short yesterday. He set off in thick fog and drizzle, but it was going OK until he reached a point where an avalanche some months ago had left a thick plaque of unstable snow on a steep slope. No obvious way around it, and further up the valley there was no sign of the path emerging -- just a torrent of meltwater. When you're on your own in the mountains it's not wise to take unnecessary risks. So he ended up reluctantly turning round and returning to l'Escolan for the night. This afternoon I picked him up from Carcassonne station, and he's now scouring the Internet trying to find another way of getting to his departure point ... as yesterday's adventure wasn't even part of his trek, just a means of getting there!
