Falls of Dochart

We were headed home from Kilcreggan today and decided to travel a cross-country route which took in one or two photo opportunities. So we went north to Crianlarich and then over to the Falls of Dochart at Killin. The river levels were low so it was more of a damp squib than usual but if you look around you can always find some interesting flows of water. I’ve chosen to present my blip as a monochrome because although in the past I have taken many waterfall pictures I have never bothered to convert to Black and White previously. It does give you great scope to make selective adjustments.

Having moaned yesterday about the lack of viewpoints and access on many Scottish lochside roads, we found one today that gave really good access and plenty of photo opportunities. It is the narrow single-track road to the south of Loch Earn. Be prepared for some reversing as the passing places are few are far between but it is well worth a visit. It seems to be a favourite place for anglers and at the eastern end there is a massive static caravan site but we weren’t aware of this travelling along the road as it was relatively quiet. When we stopped to take photos a mallard family appeared out of nowhere and started climbing up the bank towards us such is the domestication of our so called wildlife.

Passing through the Yetts of Muckart we encountered Gleneagles Golf Course which is hosting the Open this year and Knockhill Racing Circuit within a few miles of one another which I felt illustrated a real cultural divide in terms of hobbies and interests.
