A concrete love affair

Leicester University Engineering Building & Victor

Set beside Victoria Park the Engineering Building is comfortably this city's most important and arguably finest building of the twentieth century; the 1959 Stirling/Gowan beauty is part of a 'red trilogy' of university buildings the pair designed here, in Oxford and Cambridge. Apparently Leicester with its more industrial aesthetic could accommodate a more extravagant version of their minimalist modernist technological architectural vision.

A fine fine building that is also part of its own trilogy of fine modernist buildings at Leicester University with the adjacent Attenborough Tower and Charles Wilson Building.
