I highly recommend Confederates in the Attic.

I've yet to finish the book, actually, due to the little free time I have but I'm always anxious to keep reading. It chronicles the author's journey through the southern states as he learns about hardcore civil war reenactors, the ongoing racial prejudice, the meanings behind the rebel flag, etc.
