Home by Christmas

100 years ago this week two shots rang out which precipitated The Great War. There were seven conspirators who wished to kill Archduke Franz Ferdinand but that he was successfully assassinated was simple bad luck. The first attempt to kill him failed and after the arrest of the man who made that attempt the others were heading home fearing that they had failed. Imagine young Gavrilo Princip's surprise when his target pulled up alongside him; the driver had been told that he should have been using a different route so he pulled over in order to turn around. Princep pulled out his gun and shot the Archduke and his wife - both died at the scene.

Kent & East Sussex Railway are marking the centenary by having a "1914 Weekend" which made for a target-rich environment for candids; these chaps are from the Queen's Own (Royal West Kent Regiment). I have some more to process and I'll see if any of them are worth Flickring.
