Phoslock

As time draws near for The Commonwealth Games at the end of July the Triathlon venue has a seasonal problem with green algae forming on Strathclyde Loch.

The problem has been exacerbated this year by the warm and dry month of June leaving the loch very low and now stagnant.

Millions have already been spend fabricating and positioning floating booms.

Today a powder (phoslock) is being sprayed from a barge. The powder reacts with and disperses the phosphates in the water. The phosphates are the food source of the algae.

I am overwhelmed by the scale, cost and disruption being caused by this relatively short event.
