Girl Jordan

Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge

I'm rarely one to appreciate modern things; in general, I am fond of historic, over-loved artifacts that have stood the test of time. That's just my taste. However, I can never get over what this (modern [c. 2005]) bridge means to me: independence. Each time my plane circles the Charleston airport awaiting its landing, I am able to see this bridge and the path it leads into the city that I've come to love. Charleston has given me freedom to be myself, to shed old routines and become who I've always wanted to be. Because of this, I am able to see beauty in something I'd otherwise despise. Maybe modernity isn't so bad... otherwise how would anything (or anyone) evolve?
