Starling in the garden

I spent some time (mostly inside) trying to count how many birds of each sort I could see at once, in an hour, for the Garden Bird Survey. A family of starlings arrived.
I love the intense purple blue green fawn and black markings. Are these the young? They seem more colourful than I remember but maybe its the tele lens letting me look closely. Skiing today was very cold I am told.
