Royal Fort House

Great light this morning so went via Royal Fort gardens from the car park to the office. Royal Fort House is built where the old fort was. It was the where the last stand of the royalists was mounted in Bristol in 1645. The fort being the western headquarters of the Royalist army under Prince Rupert.

Rupert surrendered to Sir Thomas Fairfax on 11th Sept 1645. Fairfax eventually saw the error of his ways and refused to be a part of the trial of Charles I, and eventually played a part in the restoration of Charles II.
