Waving, not drowning

This evening I cycled up to Dunscore in rather wet rain to join the crowd of people who had gathered in the church car park to wave goodbye to our visitors from Zambia.
We went into the church for a short presentation and some photographs and I took this photo of reflections in the font, which is a small copper bowl set into a sandstone plinth.
The church used to stand on a spot about three miles NE of Dunscore, but by 1649 it was in a ruinous state and a new church was built in the village. The copper font was brought from the old church. When the building was replaced again in 1823, the font was set into the wall of the building, but a hundred years later, the new sandstone plinth was made for it. Luke was baptized in this font 16 years ago. How wonderful that it has been in use for over 350 years..
You can see my reflection in the font (with yellow scarf), two banners and a ceiling rose. The hands belong to John.
