tempus fugit

Sea sculpture

A glorious evening of unalloyed sunshine, deep shadows and just a few stacked clouds.

Ebb tide at 7.30 unveiled sculptural forms tressed with seaweed: rocks smoothed and eroded by the waves, burnished by sand and crusted with limpets and algae.

Indisputably feminine in their contours, these stones remind me in their generous amplitude of the (so-called) Venus of Willendorf, a prehistoric female figure whose purpose and meaning we will never know but whose symbolism cannot be denied.
You can see her here (and listen to a useful little discussion about her mystery.)
An enlarged version of her can be found here if you click on the image.*

There are a few more of the sea sculptures in my Blipfolio starting here. What do you think?

*The fact that she has no visible face and the main focus of attention is her genitalia is exactly mirrored by the sort of pornographic representations of women that we see today.
