Ruined castle, dramatic clouds

The vivid contrast of sunlight on Corfe Castle's stone walls against threatening clouds in the background called for a photograph, which I hope conveys some of the scene's drama.

The ruined walls in the foreground demonstrate how thick they are and also how they were built: the small, rectangular stone facing blocks, known as ashlar, concealed a rubble interior. The missing ashlar was no doubt "recycled" for building houses in the village.
