Natural Wonders

You don't need to travel to Niagara Falls, The Grand Canyon or even the Alps to experience the wonders of the Natural World. They are all around us, every day, if we take the time to notice.

Phyteuma sieberi actually hails from the South Eastern Alps but it's close relative Phyteuma orbiculare is a British native plant. Members of the Campanulaceae they both have these intricate flowers with the petals joined at the tip but splitting part way down to allow insects access to the pollen, the stigma stick out at the top of each floret. A tiny natural wonder!

To give an idea of scale, the while flower head is about the same size as a large marble.
