Bob The fat Hippo

Story by Gulliver, artwork by Max.

Bob the fat hippo

Once upon a time there was a very fat, friendly hippo called Bob.
Bob lived in a nice cool muddy river by a mangrove swamp in deepest darkest Africa. He liked to laze around all day relaxing in the shade, but Bob was not happy.
All of the other animals teased him and called him a lazy fatso. Cheetah was always running around after gazelle who was elegantly prancing away, Giraffe was constantly nibbling the tastiest leaves from the tops of the trees and monkey liked to swing from branch to branch cackling with his friends but Bob just liked to wallow in the mud.
One day Bob left the swamp and took a jungle path to McDonald's for his weekly treat when suddenly he heard a BANG. Bob rushed back to his home only to realise that the dreaded hunter Freddie was there. Luckily Freddie had missed his first shot but he was reloading and was after Cheetah! Out of nowhere Bob appeared and, with his enormous belly squashed the hunter. Oh how all of the animals cheered, Bob was a hero! The animals learned that it's not a bad thing to be different because your differences could come in handy one day.

They all celebrated with a Happy Meal!

Gulli's favourite pic from the story.

There has been controversy over the story as when Gulliver first came up with the idea the supply teacher who was in on that day said she found the sentence containing Deepest Darket Africa racist… I'm happy to say that the whole class knew this was a crazy remark and so did the school who will not be having her back, it has sparked many long conversations as you can imagine.

Gulliver spent the day at his secondary school today for an induction day, he is in the same class as 2 of his friends, they had a visit from the Author Guo Yue who came in to talk about his book Little Leap Forward, it's made a big impression on Gulliver so I have ordered him the book. It's a true story. Amazon says … 'sensitively written, real-life story about a boy called Little Leap Forward, growing up in the hutongs of Beijing in the 1960's, at the time of the Cultural Revolution. Little Leap offers children an intimate and immediate account of a child's experiences as Mao Tse Tung's Great Leap Forward policy tightens its grip on China'.

In the book Gue insists his Mother buys him an instrument and stages a protest by lying in the snow until she agrees, it takes 5 hours, she bought him a flute which he brought in to show the children! Gulliver was very impressed!

We drove Gulli in as he didn't need to be there till 9 but he came back on the bus with Zebedee, a first, he is definitely ready to move on, it's a big step though, going from being the oldest back to being the youngest again. He is even more enthusiastic about the change after today which is great!
