Newt crossing

This newt crossed my path today as I was entering work. During much of the building work a few years back, there was considerable effort made to preserve the habitat of the great crested newt, it was a big deal. I don't think this is a great crested one (doesn't look very crested) could be a palmate? Come to look at it, it may just be a lizard. I used to spend a lot of time capturing newts as a child, and then releasing them. They're fascinating little animals.
