Gone to seed

This is how a lot of the lupins in the garden are looking right now. I quite like to see seed heads and leave some of them to shed their seeds to produce more plants next year and to provide for birds and small mammals through the winter...but my wife does not like to see anything she describes as 'brown dead sticks'. I think we may be able to reach a compromise as long as I remove (after a thorough shaking) the worst offenders. I see all stages in the life cycle of plants as equally fascinating and beautiful, but It seems not everyone does.
