Anna Pavlova Kelvingrove

After taking a tour for Commonwealth Games volunteers round the gallery today I went back to look at one of my favourite paintings. Anna Pavlova, the Russian ballerina was painted by John Lavery, a 'Glasgow Boy' in 1910.He painted her in his studio but depicts her as if on stage. It is a lovely, joyful, expressive painting.
