Casa Fajanitas

A wall is built. Hands move over shapes of stones, seeking a fit. Rocks stacked, fitted together. In Caldeira do Santo Cristo, three young men worked shaping stones, wielding small sledge hammers. A stone wall is constructed, a walking path laid. Centuries pass, lichen communities spread slowly over the basalt surface, generations pass. The relationship between stone and lichen, grass and fern. The simple stone house, it's tile roof, the patch of earth beneath it, the tender garden, nourishing and feeding those who tend it, the rock wall, the stone path, the small village. Opportunities for gratitude, for kindness. Humans make their way together, creating patterns unique to who they are, circumstances in which they find themselves, weaving the fabric of connection.
