Albert Park, Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough’s first mayor and MP, Henry Bolckow, first proposed the idea of a public park, to provide a "green lung" for the population of the rapidly growing industrial town in the mid-19th century. The park was opened in 1868.

The central fountain was originally presented by local entrepreneur Joseph Pease in 1869. It underwent substantial renovation about 10 years ago.

It was good to see so many people out today enjoying this lovely 100 acre green space so close to the centre of town.
