Ravenscar Sea Fret

A weekend camping with friends, which included supporting my good friend Pete who was running an ultra - 40miles from Osmotherly to Ravenscar along the Lyke Wake walk.

I let him set off early, whilst I snoozed on. I took the car to the end of the run, then ran back about 10miles to meet him, then turned round and brought the boy home with a mixture of banter, musing, pacing, sarcasm and visualising the end of run "sports" drinks.

I was happy to limit myself to nearly 20miles running on the moor, it was hot, hot, hot, for those on the proper run, but those ultra boys and girls are made of sterner stuff I think. (btw eldest competitor of the day was 81!, speed walking like a 20 year old, we breed them tough in Yorkshire, this was the 50th year of the as a running race and he'd only missed one)

We scooped up the girls and the dogs who had walk to Riveaulx Abbey on our way back and on arrival back in Osmotherly found the village still in mid celebration for their running festival (there were lots of running races about the village), a real carnival atmosphere. I think we were the only sober folks over 14years of age - there will be some painful suntans in the morning.
Whilst ordering our fish and chips one of the local lads joined the queue and was struggling to both string his sentences together (he confessed to succumbing to the temporary neurological harms of the local brew) and understanding that Pete had just run to Ravenscar for the fun of it without stopping for a night or two's rest. The lad was also crestfallen as he's failed to win the flat cap throwing competition by less than a foot and that this year the wellie throwing competition had been cancelled (his only explanations for that were conspiracy minded).

We lay around on the grass verges along many others, all satisfied with our day in the dying sun.
