The Pilgrim’s Crossing

These poles mark the walk that three of us will do tomorrow. A three mile walk taking two-and-a-half to three hours depending on our need for refreshments and taking photographs! We have been advised to either wear wellies or walk in bare feet as the walk will be a trifle wet and even boggy in places! The poles and two refuge boxes were first put in place during the seventh century after the monks first moved to the island. The work was not done by the monks by completed by local inhabitants.

I came here this evening just to look out across the bay to take in the long line of poles that mark the safe passage across the sands, which we will take tomorrow...
