Day 10: Beijing

I went back to 798, Beijing's art district, on this day. We visited it earlier in our trip but most of the galleries and shops had been closed or closing. Day 10 was another sweltering day, so I took refuge in numerous galleries, shops and cafes. 798 is a great place to chill out at a cafe, but many of the shops I found too commercialised — selling mass-produced stuff — and many of the galleries were either uninteresting or beyond me.

This gallery is in Factory 798, a 1950s factory complete with Mao-era slogans like this one. It's a somewhat surreal — and certainly ironic — setting for displaying art.
