Blind Willie

I've always wondered about this statue of a stooped old man outside the kitchen at my Gran's, now my Aunty's, house. In my head it was Winston Churchill, but today I finally got around to asking and found out that it is Blind Willie, a famous Newcastle beggar. Apparently a set of such beggars were immortalised in sculpture. Unfortunately this Willie lost an arm early in his tenure in Sunniside, and his hollow interior made a home for a series of blue tit families.

Down to Hexham today to get some essentials from Boots and M&S (including pants for the boy who was in charge of his own packing for the first time and forgot some of the essentials), then off to Aunty June's for a garden party. We left laden with curtain material and old books! June is fighting a battle against the junk accumulated by her parents and her and her husband, so it's good to help a bit.

TallGirl managed to destroy two golf clubs that have been played with by three generations of children... But on the plus side she has spent most of the day learning all the jokes in the '1001 hilarious jokes for kids' book.
