Scorched carpet

No, I haven't had a nasty domestic accident. That's the name of this very beautiful little moth, which was in the moth trap this morning. It was one of two new species for the year, and brings our total for the garden up to 870 species. It's rather local, although more frequent in chalky districts of southern England, where the larvae feed on spindle. There's certainly plenty of that not too far away.

It was another very hot and sticky day out on site, but for the first time I (just about) managed without resorting to painkillers, though I needed one or two rests under shady trees! Rather oddly I think my back's benefited from three days of gentle walking - maybe after the next three days I'll finally be mended! :)
