Summer in the Parklet

On a beautiful day like today, this little "parklet" outside the iconic Bellingham Herald building is a tempting spot to sit in the sunshine!

Parklets are conversions of on-street parking spaces that provide urban areas with additional public outdoor space. Sustainable Connections, one of my favorite nonprofits here, worked with local government and industry partners to make the parklet happen. Crafted locally by Bellingham Bay Builders, Atility Art Studio, and Plantas Nativa, the parklet debuted outside La Fiamma Pizza, and a year later, could be found outside Dashi Noodle Bar.

It will be at its current location until November 1. Here's a recent article about the parklet in the Bellingham Herald, our local daily newspaper.
