The Victorian Penarth Pier was originally opened in 1895 & is 750 feet long; it has suffered many fires & collisions in its chequered history, notably in 1931, 1950, 1966, & has been rebuilt & restored a number of times. The £1.68m renovated Pavilion was reopened in 2013.

This afternoon's view, looking towards the Bristol Channel & the North Somerset coast, shows a sand dredger at work & an in-shore lifeboat speeding by.
