in 1169, during the Norman invasion of Ireland, the Earl of Pembroke Richard de Clare,known as Strongbow, married Diarmait MacMurrough's daughter Aoife and was named as heir to the Kingdom of Leinster, this peeved Henry11 who feared a rival Norman state in Ireland, and he became the first English King to visit Ireland.
