Soma Cube

Our first Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games visitors have arrived. They are staying pre-Games, to take in some of the sights. So after landing early morning at Glasgow airport, along with some of the Nigerian team, they headed for The Trossachs and a sail on the Sir Walter Scott.

They produced this Soma Cube puzzle this evening. Our friends are both keen wood turners, and after experimenting with different shapes, will produce them as wooden puzzles. This cube puzzle is well known, and consists of an L-tricube and six different tetracubes. These can be assembled into a 3 x 3 x 3 cube in hundreds of different ways.

More of the complexities of these cubes here. I found it easier to take a photograph than work out how the pieces fit together!
