My Fear. I conquered it.
I'm 20 and up until November last year I had a phobia of dogs.
A phobia isn't just a fear. A phobia is when you can't cope with something.
I was at a point where I couldn't take my little brother to a park. I couldn't walk on the same side of the road as a dog. I couldn't even watch a dog on TV.
It made my anxiety fly through the roof and mentally, physically and emotionally drained me due to how upset I got.
After having counselling, which I didn't find helpful and all these years of trying to find a way to fix it I did.
We had a family friend who's dogs have just had pups. She asked my parents if we would want one, but because of me they said no.
I needed to get over it and I knew my brother would love to have a dog. I said to my Mom I might be able to do this. The next minute we are sat looking at these puppies and I was holding a puppy. This puppy, Poppy. Since having her I have slowly got used to having her around and being around her.
I am still a little weary of dogs but I can do all the things I wanted to. And I did it all by myself.
