My Life With Luna

Brilliant Emerald Damselfly-Somatochlora metallica

I noticed this Brilliant Emerald Damselfly on a blade of grass by the riverbank this morning and loved how it caught the sunlight.
It occurs in sheltered still or slow-flowing waters, especially where there is some overhanging vegetation under which the female lays her eggs. It is widespread in Europe though it is rarely abundant where it does occur.
There was a thunderstorm at 4am this morning apparently (I didn't hear it) and we are forecast another for tonight. It hasn't been so humid today so perhaps another storm will freshen the air and make it more bearable.
