Barley Field Butterfly

A walk on the Yorkshire Wolds today. The focus of the walk was a visit to Wharram Percy a lost Medieval village. This was excavated by archaeologists over several summers finishing in 1990. At that time I was teaching in a school in Norton and well remember the number of student archaeologists invading the area every summer.

A light breeze kept the temperatures down although it still felt muggy. The site has a number of informative plaques which help you visualise what a thriving community it must have been.

I spotted this Tortoiseshell butterfly nestled in amongst the barley. I nearly blipped another Marble White butterfly but liked the colour of this one standing out against the cereal crop.
