The rooks are now sharing the field with the in-calf cows. Their rookery is in an oak tree in a hedge between a stubble field and this one. They look for slugs and crawling insects for food while the cows look for fast disappearing and slow growing grass in this dry weather. As long as the rooks leave the newly born calves alone when they are first born we don't mind.

Our neighbour'S Hereford bull escaped into our field and had a fight with our bull. He wasn't in there for long but Edwuardo felt sorry for himself with a blooded head standing in the corner. He is OK now but we don't know whether any of the cows were served by the visitor!
