The Ultimate Summer Treat

Home-grown apricots and home-made cheese.

These are my heroic apricots. The tree grows on the edge of a four metre high bank. I have shown how it is exposed to the gusty nor'wester, but it also gets the southerly gales, both broadside and as a concentrated updraught. Fruit in the first few years was blown away in the spring, but gradually the tree has adapted and this season has produced about 2 kilos. They are not pretty, and having to peel them detracts a little from the flavour, but they are still the best apricots I have ever tasted.

This morning we had the usual fog and low cloud. Then at lunchtime it suddenly cleared to blue skies and sunshine. It was hot! Hot like summertime.
